SERGIO SORRENTINO RELEASES ON DECEMBER 12 HIS SOLO GUITAR VERSION OF MAYABINI, A MASTERPIECE BY ZUBEEN GARG

The Italian guitarist and composer Sergio Sorrentino, described as “a superb musician” by The Wire Magazine, announces the release—on December 12—of his highly anticipated solo archtop guitar version of Mayabini, one of the most iconic songs by the celebrated Assamese singer-songwriter Zubeen Garg.

The single will be released by Sky Valley Records.

This new release follows the extraordinary success of the Instagram reel recently posted by Sorrentino, in which he paid tribute to the Assamese legend by performing a fragment of the beloved song. The video went viral, surpassing 2 million views and generating thousands of interactions worldwide.

Responding to the enthusiastic requests of listeners who were captivated by his performance, Sorrentino is now unveiling the full track of his reinterpretation of Mayabini.

Acclaimed as “the best concert music electric guitarist” by Il Manifesto and “one of the most important contemporary guitarists” by RAI Radio Tre, Sergio Sorrentino is today a leading figure in the Modern Classical and Emotional Music scene. An award-winning guitarist and composer, he is widely recognized for his distinctive use of the archtop guitar in contemporary music and for his unique sound—admired also on BBC Radio, where Ólafur Arnalds praised “the different space created by Sorrentino’s guitar.”

His landmark album Dream was highlighted in the New York Times by Seth Colter Walls as one of the “Week’s Best Classical Music Moments,” who described the album as “of disarming beauty.”

Sorrentino’s new album, Hollow, is currently enjoying great success with both audiences and critics, further confirming his prominent position in today’s music landscape.

His compositions and his electric-guitar arrangements of works by Glass, Einaudi, Vanzo, Alcocer, Arnalds, Richter (among others) have amassed millions of views and streams, establishing him as one of the most followed guitarists in the modern landscape. Since 2021 he has collaborated with Philip Glass, who published Sorrentino’s video performances on his official channels; Orange Mountain Music released the tracks as singles on all digital platforms to great international acclaim.

Sorrentino has collaborated with many of the most prominent composers and performers of our time and has performed at prestigious festivals and institutions such as Yale University, New York University, Manhattan School of Music, the Italian Cultural Institute in Paris, the Vortex in London, ON Cologne, Contemporary Music Festival of Havana and more.

The cover artwork for the new single features a beautiful piece by renowned Indian artist Prachurya Baruah, who achieved the National Award (Painting) in 2008 from the Ministry of Power, Government of India, and the IFAW Young Achiever Award in 2009, adding a further artistic and cultural depth to the project.
